What is the Active Investor Plus Visa?

The Active Investor Plus (AIP) Visa is New Zealand’s residence-by-investment pathway, reset in April 2025 into two streamlined categories. Qualifying Requirements

Minimum Investment

NZD 5,000,000 (Growth category) or NZD 10,000,000 (Balanced category).

Investment Period

Growth category: hold the investment for at least 3 years. Balanced category: hold for at least 5 years.

Time in New Zealand

Growth category: at least 21 days physically present in New Zealand over 3 years. Balanced category: at least 105 days over 5 years.

Source of Funds

Demonstrate the funds are legally obtained and can be transferred to New Zealand through an acceptable banking channel.

Fit and Proper Person

Meet Immigration New Zealand’s standard character and health requirements.

No Job Offer Required

The AIP Visa does not require an employer, job offer, or business plan — only a qualifying investment.

Our Process

  • Stage I

    Application & Approval in Principle

    Duration: approx. 11 weeks

    Submit your application directly to Immigration New Zealand with evidence of funds and investment intent, along with health and character checks.

  • Stage II

    Transfer & Invest

    Duration: within the applicable window

    Transfer your investment funds to New Zealand through an acceptable channel and place them into your chosen Growth or Balanced category assets.

  • Stage III

    Visa Grant & Compliance Monitoring

    Once your investment is confirmed, your resident visa is granted. Maintain the investment for the required 3- or 5-year period, and meet the applicable time-in-New Zealand requirement, to remain compliant.

NZD 5,000,000 — Growth Category

Invest in higher-growth assets: NZTE-approved managed funds, direct investment in New Zealand businesses, or (from June 2026) up to 20% in approved philanthropic contributions. Hold for at least 3 years; permanent residence eligible after 3 years.

NZD 10,000,000 — Balanced Category

NZD 10,000,000 — Balanced Category

A broader asset mix: listed equities, bonds, approved property developments (new residential, commercial, or industrial projects), managed funds, and philanthropy. Hold for at least 5 years.
